A Low-Phase-Noise 5-GHz CMOS Quadrature VCO Using Superharmonic Coupling

چکیده
A new concept for quadrature coupling of oscillators is introduced and demonstrated on a 5-GHz CMOS voltagecontrolled oscillator (VCO). It uses the second harmonic of the outputs to couple the oscillators. The technique provides quadrature over a wide tuning range without introducing any increase in phase noise or power consumption. The VCO is tunable between 4.57 and 5.21 GHz and has a phase noise lower than 124 dBc/Hz at 1-MHz offset over the entire tuning range. The worst-case measured image rejection is 33 dB. The circuit draws 8.75 mA from a 2.5-V supply.

Low Noise Phase CMOS Quadrature VCO with Superharmonic Coupling Using Cross-Couple Pair
This paper aims to introduce a quadrature VCO (voltage control oscillator) which applies superharmonic coupling. The presented quadrature VCO is suitable to be used, both with 2 × subharmonic mixers, as well as 4× subharmonic mixers. It would be impossible to avoid the presence of harmonics in CMOS VCO circuits. These harmonics are in general, undesirable signals which tend to accompany the des...

In this paper, a systematic method for the circuit parameters design of a monolithic LC Voltage Controlled Oscillator (VCO) is reported. The method is based on the negative resistance generation technique. As a result, a VCO has been designed in 0.18um CMOS technology using a conventional VCO structure to obtain the optimum values for the phase noise and power consumption. The simulation result...

This paper presents a 20 GHz push-push VCO realized by a 10 GHz super-harmonic coupled quadrature oscillator for a quadrature 60 GHz frequency synthesizer. The output nodes are peaked by a tunable second harmonic resonator. The proposed VCO is implemented in 65 nm CMOS process. It achieves a tuning range of 3.5 GHz from 16.1 GHz to 19.6 GHz with a phase noise of −106 dBc/Hz at 1 MHz offset. The...

This paper describes a 2.4 GHz passive switch mixer and a 5/2.5 GHz voltage-controlled negative Gm oscillator (VCO) with an inversion-mode MOS varactor. Both circuits are implemented using a 1P8M 0.13 μm process. The switch mixer has an input referred 1 dB compression point of −3.89 dBm and a conversion gain of −0.96 dB when the local oscillator power is +2.5 dBm. The VCO consumes only 1.75 mW,...
متن کاملNew capacitive coupled superharmonic quadrature LC-VCO
A study of some reported LC quadrature voltagecontrolled oscillators (LC-QVCO) is performed in which it is shown that robustness of the quadrature oscillation varies depending on the coupling configuration. Next, a new superharmonic LC-QVCO is proposed in which the common source node in either of two identical crossconnected LC-VCOs is coupled via a capacitor to the node common between the two ...
